Journal CSS coded by `thespookWith just a few days to go until National Poetry Writing Month, it occurred to me to permit all the skeletons, critics, werewolves, and goblins of the literature chatrooms to have their own day of glory. Therefore on March 31, and March 31 only, in the #getLIT chatroom, destructive critiques will be encouraged.
Yes, it shall be your right for the day to tear down pieces submitted to the room with your razor-sharp literary claws. Writers entering the room will be on guard for this, and encouraged to submit pieces with the knowledge they will be utterly shredded.
Small prizes may be awarded for the most appropriate and poisonous witticisms logged, so long as they relate to a piece submitted and not just against the person in general, and there will also be scattered rewards for those brave enough to submit work and endure the harsh criticism that follows without taking it all too seriously.
I would also like to congratulate =derivablezero for winning a year's worth of subscription with her contributions to the poetry and prose forum in February, and also to `Beccalicious, and `apocathary who won three month subscriptions each. Thanks to these wonderful people I can have hope for the literature forums and community in the future.

The demise of the
Poetry and Prose Forum has long troubled those involved with getLIT. What was once the hub of the literature community here on deviantART is now a shadow of its former self, with little activity and little intelligence, remaining.
However, this is something we intend to change. GetLIT is offering a full year's subscription to the person who is adjudged to contribute the most to forum activity during the month of February, and worthwhile threads and good responses will be highlighted in the getLIT chatroom. Spot prizes totalling one year's subscription will also be awarded for highly detailed answers, wit, controversy, and persistent worthwhile activity.
Once more the Writers' Forum shall be a place to go!
Further to this I would also like to introduce more critique nights, throughout February, following on from the success of the event in December. On each Saturday in Febraury, poetry can be critiqued. Then on each Sunday prose shall be critiqued. We shall make every effort to make sure the most thorough and talented critics are in the room at that time, and welcome you to help critique or submit your own work to be critiqued.
In the meantime, getLIT remains a focus of intelligent conversation, and a talented convention of writers and critics, who are able to help your every need in poetry and prose.
If ever the room fails to meet these expectations, please send a note, and we shall strive to heed your words and improve as best we can. Your feedback is always vital to us.
I look forwards to seeing you #getLITin the coming weeks.
Litty

Please perchance bring along your perfect prose, polished poetry, pleasing plays and picturesque publications to be pelted and plucked at, poured over and pondered on by critics from far and near.
Any questions people?

What's happening to the #getLIT I know and love?
As of the first of August, #getLIT has come under new management, and with that comes a more relaxed approach to moderating the chat, a new biweekly competition, and a plethora of resources and helpful links in the room to help the budding writer find his or her way around deviantArt's literature community. Do not presume, however, that simply because the room is less strictly moderated that we have discarded the idea of critique from our arsenal. In fact #getLIT's Critics now hold the highest level of esteem in the room and are to be seen as models of gentle moderation and intelligent critical discussion. There are four new incumbents to this role, `Amberlouie, =bewareofthesnowman, `GeneratingHype, and *SpokenAubade, who join =Drunken-Splice on this important privclass, and are to provide the backbone of #getLIT's future. Please, as they are gentle with you, be gentle with them and help them settle into their new roles. They are not necessarily obliged to provide critique to every person who asks, but I have promoted them to these positions for their kind dispositions and love of their field. If you ask nicely when they are in the room, you should not be disappointed.
This new importance attached to the Critics does not detract from the role that the Welcome-Wagon plays in keeping the room friendly and approachable. There are two new recruits to this privclass too, ~FTography and =Squarix, whose friendly nature has become almost legendary within literature on dA. Please also be gentle with them, as they continue to enhance this legendary status among us.
You are invited to write
The inaugural contest, to write a news report on a fictional sporting event, was won by `conorschild for his challenging perspective Last Day of the Negro Hunt,as his entry was the only one adjudged worthy to be awarded a share of the prize (one year's subscription). The current contest, to write a poem based on a piece of art, closes tomorrow and already has a good supplement of entries. Winners and prizes shall be announced next Saturday, along with details of the following contest, which in the interest of balance, shall be prose-related.
The changes within #getLIT will continue, but the bulk of the big changes which we wanted to implement have now come to fruition. Please remember, with a more relaxed moderating style comes an extra responsibility on you to uphold the tone of discussion and ensure no one is cold-shouldered from the lit community. We are a closely knit group, but not one that is closed to new people or ideas. If you feel you have not been fairly treated within the chatroom, you are most welcome to send a note to *getLIT directly. All complaints, suggestions and grievances are taken seriously, and we shall do everything possible to resolve any situations which are uncomfortable.
Having said all of that, we all look forwards to seeing you in #getLIT soon.
Love,
Litty![]()

We realize it was quite a shock, and in some ways inconvenient, to log into dAmn and no longer see *getLIT in the top chat list. It was a bit jarring for us, too--and a little unexpected. However, it's important to understand that *getLIT's removal from the Featured Chat list was not because we (or you) did anything wrong. It's not because the room has been abandoned. It's not because of our "transition" or due to some behind-the-scenes drama. In fact, *getLIT is still the Lit Community's "official" stop on dAmn and will hopefully remain so for many years to come.
*getLIT was removed from the Featured Chat list because, quite frankly, it was someone else's turn to be featured. The Literature community has had a featured chat in the chat list for well over a year, either in *damnLit or *getLIT. Other mediums and galleries and communities on dA have never, ever had a featured chat. Our community can act indignant and claim that Lit deserves a permanent feature, but that fact of the matter is that a permanent feature would be unfair. Quite simply, it was time to give someone else a chance.
The short answer is that it doesn't. Nothing changes about the chat. In fact, the chat has finally found and interviewed a few people who might be interested in taking over the anonymous position of Room Owner, and we are very close to making a decision. So, to dispel rumors or fears, getLIT isn't going anywhere and, as promised, your GDs are working hard to set up a leadership in the room that'll help facilitate a strong and wonderful Lit chat community on dAmn. We're excited, and you should be too! ![]()
That said, if you know of an active or semi-active Lit chat that could use more exposure, please NOTE the *getLIT account with the room name, account owner, and link. It might also hope to tell us a little about the room. Once we have your chat link, we'll add it to our list of Featured Chats.
Remember, *getLIT is the official hub--the gateway to the Lit community. That means we're totally supportive and open to other Lit chats, and we'd love to be able to send interested parties to yours! Just drop us a note, and we'll add you to our network.
