#getLIT
dAmn Lit chats have often found themselves catering to various factions, brought about by in-fighting among the participants or different styles and opinions about the appropriate goals for a Literature Chat. In recognizing this, the administration decided to take a step back and look for a fair, viable solution to this problem. After all, we want our literature community to grow, not to splinter and fall apart!
This is how #getLIT was born. Run by an anonymous (and yes, it's going to stay that way), knowledgable member of both the Lit and dAmn communities, *getLIT holds every member of the Literature community--from GDs all the way down to the newest newcomer--to the same standard. Yes, that's right: even the Administration has to answer to the "getLIT" Founder. It is designed to be as neutral and unbiased as possible (quite the feat!), and its primary goal is to be a place where people can come and find a friendly, helpful introduction to the Lit Community on dA. This dAmn chat should be a community resource, and the Founder takes that responsibility seriously.
Room FocusThe focus of
#getLIT is three-fold: 1) answer questions and concerns that community members have; 2) provide a safe, welcoming environment for fair critique; and 3) encourage thoughtful, respectful literature and writing discussions among community members.
Our goal is to be warm, friendly, and open while also remaining honest, sincere, and helpful. This is no easy task, so we welcome any suggestions that you might have to help us achieve success!
Welcome Wagon
To fill this volunteer position, we are looking for members who are friendly and knowledgable about dAmn and the Lit community. These members also act as moderators when there are no GDs present (or the Founder is unavailable), both for the chat as a whole and for critiques. It is imperative that members of this group hold themselves to a high standard of courtesy and respect towards and for every writer in the lit community.
It may also be necessary for members of this class to moderate their friends' behavior, as we're playing no favorites here, and individuals who feel they are unable to do so should not apply.
If you would like to apply for a position on the Welcome Wagon, please send a note to this account declaring your intentions and discussing your qualifications.
Critics
Critic need not be a scary (or dirty) word. The effective chat critic understands how to balance a critique with positive suggestions and fair critcisms, always keeping in mind the level of the work and writer in question. One should strive for honesty when providing critique, but one need not attack a piece of writing (or the writer) with harsh, cruel sentiments or insulting tones.
The focus in #getLIT is more in-line with constructive criticism and feedback in a general manner (with a few specific suggestions offered out) and less on in-depth, hardcore critique -- not because we do not value hardcore critique (oh, we really do!), but because the fast pace of an all-inclusive chat room requires a bit more finesse to pull one off in a timely manner. Because of this, we are looking for knowledgable critics who can provide timely, worthwhile feedback to all those who ask.
Hardcore critiques are also welcomed, should the critic and the room be open to it, and there will be nights (or days) where they are actually our main focus, but keep in mind that critique is only one part of the room's purpose -- even if it is a very important part.
#LitGDonCallOf course, we couldn't completely keep the Administration out, so *
getLIT agreed to share some space with a newely-formed room run by the Literature GDs themselves: #LitGDonCall. Lit GD On-Call is a room where members who have specific questions or concerns can go to discuss these concerns, in real-time, with an available Lit GD. The Lit GDs have control of this room and answer to each other (and AR), but *
getLIT will field any complaints about #LitGDonCall that members have, as someone needs to keep those guys in check! (Not that we anticipate any problems...)
HelpersWe're looking for a few good men (and women!) to help us help the community. Are you knowledgable about dAmn? Do you enjoy helping people? Do you want to get more involved in the Lit community? Well then, this is the volunteer position for you!
The Literature GDs are looking for people with friendly, open dispositions who can field questions and complaints with poise and style. Helpers will be called upon when Lit GDs are either unavailable or otherwise disposed and will be held to a very high standard of positive, kind behavior towards all our writers.
If you are interested in becoming a Helper, please note the getLIT account stating your intentions and qualifications. getLIT - #journal
